One of our most recent projects to get an enthusiastic thumbs up from the client straight out of Schematic Design is by Studio Designer Rick Hamer.
Our clients, a young and energetic couple, are renovating this house to be their forever home. With an interest in fostering kids in the future, they wanted a versatile layout that could accommodate a growing family. With good bones and well proportioned spaces, this house was a no brainer. In addition to great open interior spaces, they wanted to reclaim unused exterior spaces. The addition of balconies, an updated courtyard, and solar shading help to hit those goals. Scroll over the before (photos) and after (renderings) to learn more about how Rick is transforming this house.
Exterior Views
Existing Exterior with untapped potential.
New exterior will capture the second story space.
Existing pool and unused exterior space at the second story.
Updated pool and more balcony space.
Existing courtyard overrun with weeds and rusting metal work.
The new space will retain the courtyard but will become more functional with a seating area and shade structure.
Alternate view of existing courtyard.
Reclaimed space in the new courtyard.
Existing exterior front yard is foreboding and cuts the yard in half.
Proposed revision will be welcoming while opening up the yard.
Existing exterior side yard.
Revised side yard view.

Existing staircase.
New and improved view into the back yard.
Awkward existing space with built in cabinets.
The revision will create a seating area.
This room will now open up to the outside and be a place for the kids and adults to shoot some stick.
Existing shag carpet and drab paneled walls.
The new space will open up further to the outside bringing in light and better utilizing the space.
More underutilized existing space on the first floor.
Updated columns will replace the old brick and open up the space for living and dining.
Sadly, the pillars and arches didn’t make the cut.
This new open floor plan allows for flow and interaction between the spaces.
The check in desk will be replaced.
The columns will move further out allowing for better flow and more seating.
Nice. What ballpark can someone expect a Reno like this to cost?
Unfortunately, we can’t. There are far too many finish details and variables that can affect the bottom line.
Looking good. Great job Rick.
Can’t wait to see this one become true in the Studio.
