Swift Current House transforms the constraints of a challenging three acre site into architectural opportunities. Located on a long, narrow lot in Westlake Hills with strict setbacks and height limitations, the design embraces the site’s linear geometry to create a gently curved structure that follows the natural topography of the Texas Hill Country.

The collaboration with prominent Austin builders resulted in a sophisticated interpretation of Texas vernacular architecture that serves as both family sanctuary and professional showcase. Strategic material choices include a modern reinterpretation of corrugated metal through vertical aluminum channels, paired with local rubble stone and expansive overhangs essential for climate protection in the hot Texas sun.

An innovative gravity fed rainwater collection system channels water through a freestanding chimney connected to the English room below, demonstrating how functional systems can become architectural features. West facing recesses provide privacy from neighboring properties while blocking harsh afternoon sun. The three story program maximizes the sloped site’s potential with basement storage, gym facilities with skylights, and specialized spaces that reflect the owners’ English heritage and Louisiana roots.
